Career

I've started a new job working as a Senior Android Engineer. It's similar to what I was doing before but at a new company (a large tech company), and I'm excited to be working on the largest app I have ever worked on. The position comes with a lot of growth potential in mentoring and leadership, and is 3 days in the office rather than fully remote.

Life

New city

I now live in London, having moved here after living in Bristol for almost a decade. I wanted a change and I'm looking forward to experiencing what the big city has to offer. I'm not sure how long I'll stay here, Manchester and Berlin are calling!

Travel

• 🇩🇪 Berlin and Hamburg, Germany: I went to Godotcon 24 in Berlin. I also went to Hamburg to see the Miniatur Wunderland. I've been back to Berlin many times since, now I have a friend that lives there to stay with.
• 🇮🇹 Naples and Rome, Italy: I went to Italy for the first time this year. I'm interested in greco-roman archeology, so we stayed in Naples and visited the museum, Vesuvius, Pompeii, and Herculaneum. We also went on a day trip to Rome, and saw the Colleseum, Roman Forum, and a fountain and some steps.
• 🇧🇪 Brussels, Belgium: I represented Luanti (formerly known as Minetest) at FOSDEM 24 and 25.
• 🇫🇷 Nîmes, France: we chose to go here because of the Roman history, the amphitheatre is pretty cool.
• 🇬🇷 Athens and Delphi, Greece: I recently got a little obsessed with Ancient Greek mythology and culture, and decided to go visit Athens and Delphi.

Hobby and Open Source

I have reduced the amount of time I spend on Luanti and other projects to focus more on life goals.

When I do have spare time, I'm learning Godot and electronics. I'm currently working on an app to rate coffee, a plant watering system, and a few small Godot games.

I have been getting back into photography. It's something I used to do a lot when I was younger, but not so much in recent years. My friend gave me his old Canon 4000D, and I've been learning how to use it and edit photos using Darktable. Check out my photography page.

I'm learning German using Duolingo. I have a streak of over two years!

Video Games

• Songs of Syx: A medieval city builder with elements of RimWorld and Dwarf Fortress. The scale is truly impressive - you can create cities with 10,000s of population.
• Factorio: I avoided buying Factorio for years as I knew it would consume me. I was right. It's very fun, especially when you lean into using trains. Plus it's fun to manage relations with the neighbours.
• RimWorld: Odyssey: RimWorld is my favourite game of all time. The Odyssey DLC recently released, which means it's time to get back into the game.
• Cities: Skylines: After getting bored of OpenTTD, I decided to look for other games to play. I've owned Cities: Skylines for a few years but it didn't run on my laptop. It does run on my Steam Deck however. My focus is on making walkable cities with great public transport. I like seeing all the little people moving around.
